Fine for disregarding the mask requirement

Violations in public transport are currently punished differently in different countries. An overview of the fines, arranged according to the federal states from Baden-Württemberg to Thuringia

Baden-Württemberg: Anyone who does not wear a mask on buses and trains and is caught, must pay a fine of at least 100 euros. Previously, the lower limit was 25 euros. The upper limit for mask refusers is 250 euros.

Bavaria: In Bavaria, a mask is compulsory for all passengers aged six and over in public transport. Exceptions are only possible for health reasons and with a medical certificate. The standard fine rate is 250 euros in one-off cases and up to 500 euros in the case of repeated violations.

Berlin: In the case of a violation of the mask requirement on buses and trains in Berlin, a fine of 50 to 500 euros can be levied.

Brandenburg: There is currently no fine in Brandenburg.

Bremen: There is currently no fine in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. But there are discussions about it.

Hamburg: Anyone who travels by bus or train in Hamburg without properly fitting mouth and nose protection from next Monday (August 24th) and is caught will have to pay 40 euros.

Hessen: Anyone who does not wear a mouth and nose cover on buses and trains in Hessen must pay 50 euros without prior warning.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Anyone who does not wear a mask in local public transport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania must expect a fine of 150 euros if they are caught. Previously it was 25 euros.

Lower Saxony: Soon, violations on buses and trains could be fined 150 euros. So far, the catalog of fines for mask refusers in Lower Saxony provides for a fine of 20 euros.

North Rhine-Westphalia: Anyone who does not wear a mask in local public transport can be asked to pay a fine of 150 euros - without additional request.

Rhineland-Palatinate: Anyone who does not wear a mask in public transport or in shops has to pay a warning fee of ten euros. However, the municipalities can increase the amount. In Mainz, for example, a mask violation costs 50 euros.

Saarland: In Saarland, there is currently no fine for violating the mask requirement. However, anyone who does not ensure that everyday masks are worn in their public area of ​​responsibility can be fined up to 500 euros.

Saxony: The state government in Saxony has announced that from September 1st it will impose a fine of 60 euros for violations of the mask requirement.

Saxony-Anhalt: Anyone who violates the mask requirement in Saxony-Anhalt should not have to pay a fine in the future. The state government is currently not considering a fine for mask refusers, said Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU).

Schleswig-Holstein: Schleswig-Holstein asks those who refuse to wear a mask on buses and trains to pay a fine of 150 euros.

Thuringia: In Thuringia, mask refusers are fined 60 euros.
