You eat raisins and get bloated. You drink a glass of milk and need to go to the bathroom quickly. You are eating cheese and suddenly your head is buzzing. What's behind it? You may not tolerate certain foods.

Allergy or intolerance?

Experts differentiate between an allergy and an intolerance to food. In the case of an allergy, the body's own immune system recognizes certain components in the food as "enemies" and reacts to them with an allergic reaction. This can manifest itself as a rash, itching, runny nose, but also gastrointestinal complaints.

If there is an intolerance, medically: intolerance, the reason is usually the restricted ability of the intestine to properly digest or break down certain food components.
